Counseling Internships
NYFS provides year long internships for graduate counseling students and chemical dependency professional trainees. Interns are given one hour of individual supervision and one hour of group consultation each week. This internship requires a one-year commitment consisting of 20 hours per week.
The benefits of an internship at a nonprofit mental health agency versus an internship at a private or group practice:
-
Opportunity to work with a wide array of mental health professionals coming from a variety of therapeutic backgrounds and orientations.
-
The opportunity to work with populations who would not be able to afford private practice rates. The ability to serve the underserved.
-
Opportunity to see and understand how a nonprofit mental health agency works and be a part of its mission to serve the community.
-
The opportunity to start your mental health career in a community rooted environment dedicated to providing professional, affordable, and culturally responsive services to all.
-
The potential to become a full-time clinician with the agency following your internship.
We accept new interns throughout the year. If you are interested in an internship, please submit your resume and cover letter via email to Asha Thomas at asha@northshoreyfs.org
